The food is outstanding! The service is friendly but could use some work. I was there with a big party and my food came out 20 minutes after everyone else. They were done eating by the time mine came and then it wasn't even correct. I had asked for light sauce and my pasta was drenched so i had to scrape it off. Everyone else had the correct order and the food was amazing! Very authentic Italian! Everyone makes a mistake, could have just been an off day. I will definitely go again!

Terrible Italian food. And that is coming from an Italian... I got very sick after eating at this restaurant. I do not know if the baked clams were spoiled or if it was the ricotta cheese in the involtini melanzane. Will not be back here.

We went there based on previous Yelp ratings. We had reservations and were seated right away. I was not fond of the artichoke appetizer which I thought was heavy on the breading. The waitress was attentive. The table kept clean. Portion sizes were huge. Parking is limited and valet parking was all that was left when we arrived.

Giacomo's is a solid 5-star restaurant! If you like old school Italian, this is a great place. We started with a half dozen baked clams. They are a nice size with just the right amount of garlic induced breading. A half dozen is just the right amount to split between to two people. I chose a salad with their homemade garlic dressing. Garlic lovers, this is for you. It's too bad they don't bottle it for sale. It's that good. For entrees, I had the Fettuccini Verde and my wife had Linguini with clams in an garlic and olio sauce. First, the Fettuccini Verde; I wanted a somewhat "light" pasta dish. To some, that sounds like an oxymoron and I'm inclined to agree. But on a hot summer day I wasn't looking for a gut buster Bolognese sauce. The Fettuccini Verde is prepared with spinach fettuccini and a sauce comprised of fresh chunk tomatoes, garlic, onion and basil. I'll be honest, I have never had a tomato sauce like this. Although the major ingredient was fresh tomatoes, this sauce was not acidic at all. It was excellent. My wife ordered the Linguini with clams. You have the option of ordering it with a variety of sauces. She chose the garlic and olio sauce. I had the good fortune to enjoy this the next day for lunch. It too was excellent. The clams were in no way gritty and the sauce almost seemed "silky" without the garlic being too overbearing. This is a staple at most Italian restaurants. I rarely order it because, in most cases, the dish seems boring to me. In Giacomo's case, the subtle seasoning and care with which the garlic and olio are prepared elevate the dish to a new level. It's very well done. We had not planned on having dessert. I was actually going to order a Limoncello until our server mentioned they had a special dessert not on the menu: Limoncello Ladyfingers Marscipone cake. Wow, I'll have that! It's hard for me to put into words how delicate and delicious this was. If it's on the specials menu when you drop in, be sure to save room for dessert. You will not be disappointed. The only part of the dining experience that was just so-so was the wine list. Comprising mostly Italian wines, I tried the Chianti first followed by the Malbec. I thought both were average. We only ordered wine by the glass but you can order more upscale wines by the bottle that range from $60-$75. Our server Alexandra, was top-notch. She was very attentive even though she was responsible for a number of tables inside and outside on Giacomo's small patio. It was nice to see the hostess (perhaps one of the owners?) backing up the wait staff by schlepping drinks and helping with other things. It was good to see servers, busboys AND management working as a team. We dined late afternoon on a Sunday and the restaurant was 3/4 full. It's a small room so I would recommend reservations anytime you go. When we went, it was definitely an older crowd but we also had a high school aged couple on a date seated next to us. No, this is not an avant guard, hipster place. It's a comfortable room nonetheless. In terms of value, we had 1/2 dozen baked clams, salad, two entrees, one dessert special, 3 glasses wine, 2 cocktails, one Limoncello. The bill was $110. Excellent value in my book. In summary, Giacomo's is an excellent Italian restaurant serving traditional dishes with a great deal of care. Excellent preparations, great service in a comfortable setting make this restaurant worth the drive. Based on our experience, I can't see how you could go wrong.

Came here with a girlfriend during the week for dinner. We didn't have a reservation, but we were seated right away. The restaurant seems a little bit bigger from the outside, but it's really cozy inside. Our waitress was really friendly and sweet, and the food was great! The waitress brought over some fresh bread, which was still warm (really tasty). We started off with the fried calamari appetizer, and I must say that is was perfect! Probably the best calamari I have ever had. The portion was really big, and it was so crispy! For the main course, I decided to go with the Vitello Scaloppini, which is veal topped with a lot of yummy mushrooms. I also got a side of angel hair pasta. The veal was pretty good, maybe just a little bit salty for my liking. For dessert, we split a slice of the turtle cookie dough ice cream pie. It was the perfect ending to a delicious dinner, and more than enough for two people to share. I will definitely be coming back!

My date and I ate here Saturday evening after the Chicago Wolves hockey game. Excellent service, food, and atmosphere. It's quiet, dim (but not too dim), and incredibly comfortable. The entire restaurant is very clean. Our waiter was attentive and well-mannered, and he came to check on us as needed; not so often as to be irritating, nor so scarcely as to ignore us. Just right. I ordered the spinach ravioli with the "Picky Packy" sauce (tomato, garlic, onion, basil) and my date ordered the fettucine verde. Everything tasted so magnificent, and it was prepared beautifully. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND, and I would travel the distance from Naperville to come eat here again. Thank you, Giacomo's!

Can't beat the under $10 lunch specials. Dinners are a good value as well. Really good pasta dishes with a killer ariebiatta (sp) sauce as well as a half dozen more. Excellent food and value.

Outstanding! The best Italian food this side of the Mississippi! The husband and wife team do a wonderful job making you feel at home . The waitstaff is very friendly and knowledgeable regarding the menus and always have great insight . The decor is nothing to rave about but it does have that homey feeling. I have tried a number of items on the menu and can honestly say from the veal, chicken (any dish) to the soups and salads I have not had better anywhere else. Although it is not advertised as a kid friendly place there is no reason not to bring your children. Giacomo himself always finds time to chat with my 7 year old boy each time we eat there. Funny thing is, I actually think he remembers him from always seeing him . We do not leave without saying goodbye to Giacomo and that's simply because of my son. He always makes our entire family smile . ENJOY!

I've done take out from here and liked it. So maybe it was an off night but the filet was over cooked and charred beyond flavor. The Alfredo was lacking flavor. Apps were the only highlight - place is a bit outdated and over priced for the quality. Hoping it was an off night but definitely not worth our night out for the price

We really loved our family dinner here. The dishes seemed bolder well seasoned and savory. The portions were very ample. Not nouveau Italian but definitely basic Italian kicked up several notches. Prices were higher but fair for the very large portions. For example I was only able to finish one fourth of my lasagna because of the sheer volume (and also because I wanted to save room for dessert). My mouth is watering just thinking about those leftovers sitting in my fridge. That savory meat sauce (which is easily the best I've had in the past several years) over layers of tender homemade noodles and polenta. We shared the fried cheese appetizer, which is interestingly, mozzarella cheese wrapped in a thin pastry, teased with a bit of tomato sauce and then deep-fried. Crispy and delicious. Could've used a little more acid from more tomato sauce but that's okay. For dessert we wanted to share the cannoli but decided to try the turtle pie, which was good but next time I definitely would like to try the cannoli and or the spumoni.

Holy Italian food! This place is uh-mazing! We dined here to celebrate my husband's 30th birthday; it was also our first time eating at the restaurant. We made reservations about a week ahead of time because there were 7 of us going. We were seated in a party room and the service was great. Our salads arrived quickly and the food was served hot and within a reasonable amount of time from when our salads were delivered. Portions are very large, so plan on taking some leftovers home (never a bad thing, right?) Restaurant is $ on the higher side for me, but like I said, you get a lot of food. I had the spinach ravioli with picky packy sauce and my husband ordered the fettuccine alfredo with chicken. Both were extremely yummy. This would be a 'special' occasion restaurant for us, not something we do on a monthly basis. We will definitely return as the food was absolutely delicious and the service was excellent. Decor and overall ambiance are dated for my taste, but Thai doesn't take-away from the tasty food. Hubs also got a complimentary dessert for his birthday! *take-out is available also*

We arrived early and parked right by the door. The handicap parking is about 60ft from the door. Plenty of parking in their lot. Waitresses are courteous and attentive, along with the bus peeps. We were the second table to arrive. The dining room is comfy with dark Italian maroon curtains and carpet. Comfy and welcoming. White table clothes with casual dress. What amazes us most of the time is folks who think ripped jeans is casual dress. FYI ripped clothing is not casual dress. Anyhow, everyone is welcome. Dip the warm Italian bread into the extra virgin olive oil topped with their cheese mix. But, remember to save room in your tummy for your main meal. Superb Italian plates to mangia mangia there or take home leftovers for next day. These are the following plates we ordered: *Veal Picate *Home made regular gnocchi Note: they have vegan gnocchi as well. *Baccala *Crab & Shrimp Lasagna *Friday soup is always Pasta Fa zoo ol Superb and full of Italian authentic flavor. Gram pa's Italian recipes. This is a family owned and operated Italian Restaurant. Their menu is abundant just like their passion to share their recipes with all who want to treat their palates to a trip to Italy. They take reservations, credit cards and kids are welcome. We love eating here.
I had bought a Groupon for Giacomo's and decided to check it out. A friend and I went to dinner on a Wednesday night. We did not realize how crowded it would be. We went in and were told it would be about an hour, was that okay. We said yes and left for a bit (there is no seating by bar). We came back 45 minutes later and the hostess said that there was not a table ready but 3 were close. She then bought us both drinks for having returned. We got sat shortly thereafter and the waitress was very attentive. I ordered the spinach chicken and my friend had the potato gnocchi. Both were very well made and large portions. I really enjoyed my trip to this restaurant and would go again.

I went to this resturaunt for the first time tonight. The first thing that got my attention was that they had free valet parking. FREE!! When I walked in the door, I felt like family instantly. The appetizers at this place are not something to pass up. The mozzarella twists were cheesy and had a fresh crust on them. They weren't greesy at all. The antipasto salad was big and had a large variety of cold cuts for every taste. I had the Gnocchi with vodka sauce, and it was just to die for. The Tiramisu was probably the best desert I have ever had. I am looking forward to leftovers tomorrow! I have been to Italy, and this is definitely real Italian food. Please do not go to olive garden, maggianos, or biaggis, This resturaunt blows them out of the water.

I have been a fan of Giacomo's for many many years and actually am surprised that I never thought of or took the time to write a yelp review. It was only because if a bad experience elsewhere in which made me with I came to Giacomo's instead that I even thought of it. (See my previous review if you would like to learn of a place to avoid) Giacomo's has some of the best Italian food I have ever had, hands down. To help forget about the bad experience elsewhere, we went to Giacomo's last night and hand a wonderful meal. My wife had the always fantastic Lasagna. I would describe it, but half the reviews here talk about it and it was part of Giacomo's feature on Check Please a while back. Just try it, you will never want lasagna anywhere else ever again, it is that good. My son had the cheese ravioli (his usual) and loved it. And I had the veal florentine which was fantastic. The spinach was fresh, the veal was tender and the dish had just the perfect taste of white wine. Fantastic! We also had the baked clams which are a usual for us regardless of what else we order. A beautiful dozen of very large, very tasty and very hot baked clams is the perfect way to start every meal at Giacomo's. After all that, we were too full for desert, but I will say that their tiramisu, like the Lasagna is the best around. You can't go wrong with Giacomo's!

I ordered take out from here last night, and it was really good! The lady who took my order was super sweet, and when I told her that it was my first time there, she told me that my appetizer was on the house. Amazing! The appetizer was an order of their mozzarella cheese sticks, which were a hit. The outside was some kind of crunchy/doughy thing and inside was the melty mozz, served with a vodka sauce on the side. We also got the minestrone soup, which was just okay. It was a bit too thick for my taste, as I'm used to a lighter broth with minestrone. The soups came with a small piece of french bread. Entrees were the chicken parmesan and veal parmesan. I thought the veal was tastier, but both were delicious. We both were unable to finish our entrees, and I'm really excited for leftovers for dinner tonight. My only complaint is that they didn't provide any extra parmesan cheese, butter for the bread, silverware, or napkins. I am used to take out orders coming with this stuff... maybe I needed to ask? Overall, a solid choice for classic Italian food. Will be back to dine in for sure!

We visited on a Friday evening with a reservation (recommended). We have been to this restaurant several times over the years. Still great service, friendly, attentive, and amazing food! Lasagna this time was melt in your mouth good, and I ate leftovers for two days. The minestrone soup was fine, salad was an average salad, iceberg with tomato. Fresh bread with olive oil, pretty standard but hot. Vodka sauce was light and paired well with spinach ravioli, penne pasta was perfect when ordered with home made picky packy sauce! The chocolate lava cake is amazing, but the cannoli really was the best we had ever had outside of Rome, Italy.

Reserved a table for my boyfriend's birthday --luckily I did! This place is on the small side but has a cozy atmosphere. You literally feel like you are sitting in someones larger than usual, living room. I saw the infamous lasagna get served to numerous patrons and it was HUGE. My boyfriend had the chicken parm and he said it was very good...especially the breading. I had the Polo Florentine and it was spectacular. The chicken breast was super moist and the mozz cheese was gooey heaven. I was undecided on which kind of wine to have with my dinner and the waitress let me sample a Pinot -and I ordered it with my meal and it was great . We also ordered a rum and coke before dinner and let's just say it was pretty clear :-) I have recommended this place to many and will be there again in the near future.

Went here for the first time although I have eaten their food before. My sister gets their catering when she has big parties. I would recommend it! I was not disappointed with this place. We were greeted like family as soon as we walked in. We were seated quickly without a reservation. The food was awesome and was large portions. I had the meat ravioli with picky-packy sauce. So fresh. Hubby had the braciole which was fantastic. Son had the veal & Eggplant parmesan. The portion was huge but he managed t eat the whole thing! Another thing I really liked was that the waitstaff was extremely attentive yet unobtrusive. Plates were quietly whisked away as soon as you were done with them. My glass was never less than half-full. I will definitely add this to my list of favorite restaurants.

I watched the show Check Please a few years ago and have been wanting to try authentic Italian food. The restaurant is small and cozy, we felt welcomed immediately. 1st visit me and my hubby dined in and we enjoyed everything from the calamari appetizers to the steak pizzaiola that was to die for! And to end the dinning experience the Tiramisu that was a total KO!! Omg the Tiramisu is drowning in Cointreau!!! Love it! 2nd time around ordered carry out and were amazed at how the hosted treated us when knowing we drove over 1hour just to pick up our Valentine's dinner. Even after arriving home after a long drive, our food was fresh and taste was on point. The lasagna was really good, the spaghetti pesto was awesome too and also tried the cannoli and fell in love even more with this restaurant. I'm glad we stepped out of the routine chain restaurant dinning! After dinning here, I will never ever step into a chain restaurant again!

Such a little treasure! This restaurant was recommended to us by a co-worker, and what a GREAT recommendation! From the minute we walked in, we were greeted friendly by what appeared to be a chef!!?? We were seated promptly, and also greeted by our waiter, who was very friendly, and offered suggestions when we could not make up our mind! Very large portions, delicious entrees, and they even brought us a dessert, on the house, because it was out first visit there! We will be returning and enjoying even more meals here!!!!!! Thank you for your great service!

Tried this restaurant off the recommendation of a coworker. Best recommendation! Great family owned Italian restaurant. Service: Service was personal and attentive. Waitress made menu recommendations and they were spot on. Owner went around the dining room and checked in on each table personally. Food came out at a reasonable pace for us to enjoy a relaxing dinner experience. Food: Had the lasagna with meat sauce and it was very good. Portion sizes are large enough that you will have a second meal. We also started off with the calamari. Calamari was properly cooked and had a nice flavor. Wife created a pasta dish and the waitress was very accommodating with her request to add additional vegetables. Location: We had a short wait on a Friday night, so it might be a good idea to make a reservation. The waiting area contains 4 chairs that are outside the bathroom. Overall, we will absolutely be back!

The Turtle Cookie Dough Ice Cream Pie (a dessert item) is scrumptious!!! The service here his friendly and great! I was greeted right when we entered the place. We came here for Mother's Day and they had a special menu for the occasion and offered a free glass of champagne for moms. This was so nice because they did not have to do that. The place is small so when it's packed seating gets tight. I'm still a fan!!!

Service (pick up): Friendly and efficient. Food: Absolutely delightful! I don't usually write reviews but when I do, I write them for those best deserve it and Giocomo's (Ja-Ko-Moes) definitely deserves it! I'm full but I can't stop eating. Overall: Definite repeater!!!

Excellent food. I ordered from the carryout menu, the Linguine con Scampi and it was excellent. Nice juicy tomatoes, tasty shrimp, lots of pasta in a great sauce. It came with a nice little side salad, too. Everyone at the restaurant was very friendly. Will definitely be back for a sit-down meal.

My wife and I ate here a few weeks ago, and had been meaning to try it since we saw it on Check Please a few years back. Giacomo's is what I would describe as an old-school red sauce Italian restaurant, and we enjoyed it very much. We shared a veal and eggplant special, as well as the canneloni. Both were delicious. If I had to make one complaint, it would be that I'm not sure the flaming lava cake was baked on site, and I thought it was a little too boozy. We'd love to go again, but will try a different desert next time. The staff is extremely friendly and the service was excellent.

I do not know why the chef salted the lemon chicken but please let diners salt their own food if necessary. I might go back but will try something else or will ask for no salt.

My family and I love this place. The owners and staff are incredibly friendly and the food is delicious. Definitely some of the best Italian food in the north suburbs. Try the picky-packy sauce and you won't regret it. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of the menu items. If you haven't stopped by this local gem, I'd definitely recommend it.

Giacomo's does it right! Their food is outstanding, and they are models of customer service! We went here on the spur of the moment. We had no reservations. The hostess, which is also the owner and her daughter, were extremely friendly and customer service oriented. When I told them it was our first time, they introduced us to their husband, who is the chef. He came out to say hello. They have a lot of repeat business because they greeted people by their names! I had the lasagna with polenta. It was very tasty, and quite large. I took half of it home for lunch the next day.

I think this is my new favorite Italian place!! Been there several times and have never been disappointed. Authentic Italian, just wonderful! Be sure to ask for olive oil and their own cheese blend to dip your bread into. It's not automatically put on the table, but their cheese blend is great! Lunch specials for $6.95 are a total deal too!

I"m not sure if this is a practice or an isolated incident, but I noticed that after checking my credit statement, this place will round your receipt to the nearest dollar. For instance, our tab was $157 and change, but the posted amount was conveniently rounded up to an even $158. I'm certainly not that cheap and I really don't care about pennies- but this is a matter of proper business. I think that as a rule, restaurants should charge what their customers sign on the receipt. The sauces were good, but the pasta for all 4 of us was over-cooked. Service was friendly but kept on checking on us as it got closer to closing time. Overall, a nice business that lost my business over a few pennies. For me, it's the principle.

Michael G.
The food quality and taste is absolutely wonderful and filled with soul. The owner / chef makes the place!!! He really knows what he is doing, and he cooks in a way that just can not be duplicated. Rarely, a food item comes out overcooked, occasionally tables are not ready when they were reserved (which is rather annoying), and occasionally the service slips a bit from its typical high standard... However, more times than not I am totally delighted at Giacomo's

We went here for a post-event dinner with the family on a Saturday. We called for a table at 6pm and they were able to accommodate us at 6:30, but we had the very last table in the joint. So, obviously, this is a popular place. 'Check, Please' effect, perhaps? Very family atmosphere: friendly and experienced waitstaff, personal greeting from the hostess/owner when you arrive. We split a fried zucchini appetizer and each had a cup of minestrone soup. Kids got penne marinara, which had a nice, fresh sauce. I had the sausage-shrimp-asparagus-artichoke-tomato pasta special and my husband did the eggplant rotolo. The food was above average but I wouldn't say it was amazing. The atmosphere and overall feel skews more toward supper club than high-end restaurant (not that there is anything wrong with that). Definitely not supper club prices, though. Dinner for 4 ran us $95 with tip. For that amount, I was glad to have brought home a lunch's worth of leftovers.

I went here with a friend on a Saturday night. Upon walking into the restaurant, we were greeted by a very friendly hostess and were seated right away. All the staff members were really friendly and make you feel at home. We got the linguini and the eggplant parmesan. Both linguini and eggplant parmesan were great, except after a while I felt I was going through a mound of cheese with the eggplant parmesan. The quantity of food they serve here is about 2 - 4 servings per person. Thus, while it is pretty expensive per dish, you are getting your money's worth. Sadly, we had no room for dessert. Overall, little bit on the pricey end but you are getting a couple days worth of delicious food!

Amazing place, definite must for lunch or dinner! As a first generation Italian, whose parents are both born in Italy and everyone in the family is an amazing cook, I highly recommend Giacomo's for an incredible, authentic Italian meal. The food is extremely tasty and plentiful for a very affordable price. The Sausage & Peppers are sweet and tasty with a little spice, while the grated cheese combination is delicious with a little olive oil & bread or over any of their incredible pasta dishes. Above and beyond the food, the staff and owners are welcoming and gracious. My family went to Giacomo's for a place to gather after my Mother's funeral and from the first time we walked in to taste the food and figure out the menu to the time when we left after having 60 + family members and friends through everything was top notch and my mother would have been proud. Thanks Giacomo's - look forward to seeing you very soon!

I really wanted to like this place due to all the positive reviews and the great staff, but it just didn't work out. The atmosphere and service were excellent. Everyone was really friendly and the dining room was nice and relaxing (although a little cold). I had the chicken parm, and it wasn't so good. The portion was massive, but the chicken breast was essentially flavorless. I wasn't a fan of the marinara sauce either (too acidic/sour for my taste). Maybe I got the wrong thing and I'd be willing to give it another chance, but for now this restaurant gets 2 stars unfortunately.

The service was top notch, and the people were very nice, and the food portions were huge. These are my only complaints I didn't enjoy the direct sight line into the kitchen, which is a bit unappetizing when you're eating or being seated. It's right next to the host station, and visible to certain tables. I guess that's being nitpicky, but I really hate looking at kitchens when I'm in a restaurant. The food was good, but the tomato sauce, or as Italians call it, "gravy," was way too salty. As an avid cook myself, I think it could have used far less salt. They also used way too much Mozzarella cheese. I ordered the eggplant parm, and I was shoveling off cheese. I think the chef would do himself a favor, and save money, if he used half the amount, and I think people would still be pleased with the food. As for the eggplant itself, I enjoyed the thinly cut pieces, and they didn't taste greasy. The sauce itself was a nice tomato texture, just way too salty. I will be back though, because we had an overall good experience. My husband really enjoyed his meal, and the food tasted fresh. He had chicken parm, and he said the portion was huge, and the chicken was tender and juicy. He also loved his cocktails.

Homemade Gnocchi is a must order. Chicken cacciatore was very delicious. Our waitress was very busy that another waitress helped her out. Both were very nice. A pleasant dinner overall.

The meat sauce: I could bathe in it. Delicious! The chicken parm is the size of a nerf football. Absolutely awesome! I eat here or get takeout almost once a month. Never disappointed. The owners are very nice real people. The also have a great party room in the back for rehearsal dinners and stuff. Check this place out!

Decided to go for an early dinner here on a Saturday night. Only a few tables were filled when we arrived, but got more crowded the later we were there. There service was great. Knowledgeable waiter, my water glass was never empty, food was hot with the just the right amount of wait time. The food was very good. I had veal parmigiana and my girlfriend has the chicken parmigiana. Safe bets since this was our first time here. We both really enjoyed the fresh bread bread, dinner and dessert. The side order of spaghetti with marinara sauce was nothing to write home about. Prices were reasonable, service was really good and dinner was very good. We will definitely eat here or pick up from here again.

Cute small place! They don't really have a specific gluten free menu, but the regular menu does have gluten-free gnocchi. They are also very knowledgeable about gluten and can help you order off the menu and remain gluten free. The shrimp, scallop, portobello risotto was delicious!

We recently hosted our son's and daughter-in-law's wedding rehearsal dinner at Giacomo's. We had the private dining room and opted for the family style package. The food, the service and the atmosphere were fabulous. We were all very well taken care of and everyone raved about the food. A huge thank you to Giacomo's for making this event very special.

I cannot believe Busia has been holding out on us! This place is just a few minutes from her house and yet she's been telling us to take her to Olive Garden because she thought it was an easier drive! Oh, bother... Giacomo's had been on my "must try" bookmark list for a while now not realizing how close to Busia's it is. Then my father-in-law saw it on "Check, please!" and asked to go there for his birthday dinner. Absolutely! Their website highly recommends reservations and I would have to agree with them. The restaurant is cozy-small. We did not have a reservation and waited a half-hour for a table for five, which is better than the initial 45 minutes we were told the wait would be. A number of people came in to pick up their take-out orders while we waited which would also be a great option. (Side note: they also have a seperate room for larger groups or parties.) The menu is extensive for food, wine and dessert. We were all drooling over the many choices in the menu while we waited. We had the Pinot Grigio/Sauvignon Blanc blend of wine by Due Uve and everyone loved it. There was a huge basket of warm bread on the table which we gobbled up dipped in olive oil and a parmesan cheese & herb blend which was put on the table. We also ordered the calamari and it was fresh and perfectly fried with plenty of marinara sauce for dipping. For dinner the five of us had: Bracciole, Chicken Parmesan, Steak di Anna, Chicken di Anna and I had the Shrimp and Scallops with Portobello Risotto. I sampled most of the others' meals - all delicious. My husband's steak was so tender you could cut it with a fork. The only disappointment was the risotto with my meal; seemed a bit overcooked and had some clumps in it. I understand risotto can be a bit tricky to cook so, oh well. The shrimp and scallops were cooked perfectly and the portobello were plentiful. The portions here are HUGE! You will get anywhere from two to four servings from one meal unless you have a reeeeeaaaallly big appetite. We had birthday desserts waiting at home so we didn't sample any of those but they certainly sounded delicious. The staff was friendly and even the bus boys were quick and courteous. We love to visit small family-owned places and this one is just perfect!

Went based on the reviews here. Party of 2 adults and 2 children on a Saturday evening. I would NOT recommend this restaurant for children. The menu and vibe are of a place you visit when the kids are home with a babysitter. No kid's menu or paper napkins. And yes I think $3 for a glass of iced tea for a 3 year old is a bit much. The food was okay. The bread with olive oil and cheese blend was very good. Salads were blah. Minestrone was blah. The Lasagna was very good, but with all the polenta & cheese I would have preferred a bit more sauce. The Fettuccine Verde was blah. I inquired with the server and got a half portion of Fettuccine Alfredo for the kids to split. I asked for shrimp to be added. There was a nice portion of shrimp and I believe a full fettucine alfredo was brought. The alfredo was excellent but the pasta was overcooked. All in all it was good. But I wouldn't go out of my way for a visit.

The menu is a 4 star. Great offerings. Bread and salad solid starter. Disappointing stuffed mushroom app. Main course of shrimp, scallop, clam pasta was very good, just not great. Wanted badly to give it a 4 star because we usually only get home runs here. Anna Marie the owner was Sooooooo nice and gave us a great table. Just an off night but def worth a try when u r aching for da pasta.

I admit, I was a bit put off when the first time I went I was told I needed a reservation or wait 2.5 hrs for a table. A month or two and a reservation later, I confess Giacomo's has delicious food. I ordered the Chicken Cacciatore and it was darn near perfect (and I wasn't scoffed at for asking for olives in it!). Chicken Marsala and Chicken Cacciatore are my "foundation" Italian dishes and usually what I order when first trying a new Italian restaurant. It is pricey, however balanced by the large portions. I live in Des Plaines, but this place is easy to miss. I only knew of it from Check Please and my ever-loved Entertainment book. I'll be back.........soon.

2 times there and both times it was a very pleasant dinner. The food is great, good wine and the service is fast. A little restaurant but they know how to run the business.

We have been to Giacomo's many times but no one in our group ordered the lasagna. After seeing Giacomo's on Chicago's Best, we went again. I ordered the Lasagna. It was very good and I am not a Lasagna eater. The meal started off with a cream of spinach/ artichoke soup that was good. The portion size of the Lasagna was big, so I took some home. It was even better the next day! Recommendation: get the Lasagna.

Attended a banquet here with a family style menu. Service was attentive and quick. The facility is maintained nicely but beware of the parking lot because it is a little tricky to navigate if you have a large vehicle. Now to the food...A-OK homemade Italian but wouldn't go out of my way to dine here. However, several Italian folks that were with us really felt the food reminded them of how their mom or grandma use to cook. As for me...the bread they bring to the table was YUM, the salad just a salad with the house dressing just blah, pasta cooked *absolutely* perfectly al dente (Thank the Lord!), a chicken/garlic/onion dish made with juicy breast meat but wasn't tasty (and I love garlic/onions!) and sausage and peppers with the sausage being the Woohoo of the entire experience. If they sold the sausage by the pound I'd return again and again and again. However, just a safe bet Italian spot to try if you're every in the area.

We went for lunch today and it was very good. There are some little things they could do that would really have enhanced the experience for me. 1. Fresh grated parmesan (at least for the entree). They don't have it (just the "drier" type like you can get in a canister from the grocery store). 2. Coffee creamer NOT in the little plastic, individual cups. Having it in a little pitcher would really add a little class. 3. Brewed ice tea - I guess I'm picky about that. I would definitely go again. The service was okay, the bread was delicious, the entrees very good. We had Chicken di Anna, pasta with mussels, Italian sausage and peppers in bowtie pasta and spinach fettucine with alfredo sauce. Everyone was quite happy with the food.

Solid italian restaurant. Huge portions. Good gravy. Not impressed with the size of the room. Too many tables squeezed into too small of a space. Not cozy and romantic. Bit on the pricy side for basic Italian faire. I'm at the stage in my life where quality impresses me over quantity. Two words, Amore Mio. If I want a soda refill or an extra shrimp I would get it without so much as a mention of an extra charge.

Don't be fooled by the outside and pass this place up. Our service, food, and wine were all amazing! The red sauce is wonderful!!! Chicken Parma was a thick piece of chicken that was amazing. Great experience!

Have eaten here 4 or 5 times and every time the food has been ok at best. The food is standard Italian-American and over priced for what it is, though the portion size is generous. The chef also uses way too much salt, which is saying something because I usually love salty foods. Although there is not a whole lot of options for Italian food in the area (thus why I have eaten here so many times) I would suggest going elsewhere.

Very family / warm environment. - (as to respond to the other reviewer, I like the "mob" environment. and obviously you have no idea what a real mob hangout looks like.... well, not that i know any better haha..w/e ) Overall atmosphere was pretty nice, the waiters were relatively quick to things we asked for. I actually thought this was the same chain of the other "giacomo's " in Boston which i absolutely loved...they are not related.... i can't even remember what the place was really called either. anyhow, the food was decent. I wouldn't say they were very impressive but it was better than what I anticipated. had a bottle of wine, 1. calamari (that came with 4 fried shrimps but we had 5 people, I just didn't eat one - the waiter told me that there will be 4 shrimps but i ordered it anyway, I would have put higher gratuity if they gave us the 5th shrimp) 2. Lasagna, - very meaty it was good but I wish they embeded more sauce in between- i suppose that's just my personal taste 3. chicken Caesar salad - the chicken was pretty chewy not hard, smoked, and It wasn't bad at all but I just thought there were too little veggies and a bit soggy croutons 4. Seafood linguine - was pretty good. had a lot of mussels.. it was like a mussel pasta. 5. orange fish plate - the fish was nice and soft, very well cooked. very yummy... the small olives (?) on it felt a bit too salty but I don't like olives in general ** important -- if you are pizza lover, they do not have /serve pizzas - this is strickly southern italian cusine **

The best Italian place in the burbs bar none and second place isn't even close! Try the picky pack sauce and order a bottle of wine and stay awhile! Trust me you'll feel like you're at home

"This is a nice, small family restaurant but after 4 visits it is clear to me the place is not deserving of so many rave reviews." - Steve P. For people who said this is drastically better than Olive Garden fare, you're all liars (and inspire any venom in this review of an otherwise decent experience). It was good, but not amazing. Especially for the price. Anything with meat in it was over $15. Maybe my expectations for pasta are too high? I doubt it. My girlfriend's Meat Lasagna was pretty good, but the sauce somewhat overpowered everything. There were bits of shell in my pasta; our server wondered whether my girlfriend wanted water IN her Bloody Mary (instead of WITH it); he also gave her the wrong soup. I recommend Giacomo's if you're 80, your pallet's losing sensitivity, and you want to spend money in order to feel classy in the 'burbs.

Food is fantastic, wait staff good, and very accommodating. Had a reservation, called to tell them we were running a bit behind and they said they were waiting for us and table would be ready for us(there was 15 of us) when we arrived.Indeed it was. Homemade pasta and sauces were excellent. Loved the authentic flavors. The only thing that I would like to see is that the bill can not be divided and that's a bit cumbersome in a large group. The tip will still be there!

I wanted to try a local place and I noticed this place had good ratings and the menu looked great. The place has great atmosphere dining room which was very quaint.Service was outstanding.I think what we ordered was the problem. Wife had a shrimp risotto and I had Clams, shrimp and scallops over angel hair.Risotto was pretty sticky and lacked flavor. My pasta was was O.K. not overwhelming. Should have went with the fresh made pasta. I will definitely give it a try again.

Been here three times. First time was quite good. Second, not so good. Third, better. Not quite flavorful enough, in a nutshell. Not enough "pop." Nice people, menu, atmosphere. I've been spoiled, having lived in Kansas City (the mob-owned old part of town has the best Sicilian food in the world) and San Francisco.

Another great find in Arlington Heights! I saw this place on Check Please, then I learned of a relative that frequents this place. So I went last night with my brother his wife and newborn baby! My brother ended up knowing the owner and wife Giacomo and Ann. I felt like I was in the home of a traditional Italian family with loads of food and courses just kept on coming. The bread was amazing Olive oil with a mixture for dipping. Pasta Figoli soup fantastic. Calamari Appetizer was breaded perfectly. Broccoli, Shrimp and Linguni in Olive Oil and Garlic with Red Pepper flakes was just like momma used to make. I'm looking forward to my next visit!

I attended a luncheon here after a friends early Saturday wedding. They have complementary valet kids! That was the first thing I noticed. The parking lot seems a little small so maybe that's why they valet. The building itself is a little small bit that adds to its charm in my opinion. We were in their banquet room which housed about 5, 8 top rounders, 2 rectangular tables and a small table front and center for the lovely couple. There was a bar in the back of the room and a cake table right at the front of the room. There was also just enough floor space for the couples first dance in the middle of the room. A huge coat closet was located outside the room between the bathrooms. Perfect location for a small, low key reception or any other small gathering. The service was excellent! Initially I was a bit turned off by one of the ladies serving but realized she was probably just overwhelmed and she became friendlier as the day progressed. I don't think this was supposed to be full service but when they noticed that drinks were empty they inquired and promptly refilled beverages from the bar! Definite perk! Now onto the food... Oh the bruschetta! So tasty! I only had 2 pieces because you had to travel to the bar to get more and since I wasn't drinking I didn't want to appear gluttonous. Haha. The cream of chicken and rice soup....I'm certain it's what heaven is made of! It was beyond the best I've had and I've sampled a lot of soup. Mmmmm! Oh and it had a few peas in there for color and taste! So darn good!! Next round took us to gnocchi-land. Definitely delicious but the sauce was where it was at! I believe it was a vodka sauce, so good! I didn't have much as I wanted to save room for what may come next oh and I had already started to fill up on the amazing bread, oil and cheese that was bottomless on our table. Heaven is also made of that bread/cheese/oil combo. Out next was the tastiest mix of fresh veggies, Italian sausage and chicken. The veggies were so flavorful! Again, I loved the sauce the sausages were in, so tomatoey and good! The chicken breasts were in a creamy white sauce with onions. It was fall apart tender and good, though not my favorite. I had a great experience here for this reception. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Food was devine. I'd love to come back for dinner sometime!

Came into Giacomo's on Friday night and the place was packed. A good sign to start. While it was packed we were quickly seated. The wine list was small, but all bottles were reasonably priced. Had the chianti. Started with the calamari. It was breaded perfectly and not oily. Almost like a tempura. The portion was huge (as are all portions). My only complaint of the night was the caesar salad. While they had anchovies (a huge plus) the salad was drawing in dressing. It is a mayo based caesar so I'm not a fan. I also had some of the crab bisque which was slightly salty but very tasty. For the main course, I had spaghetti and meatballs with a red vodka sauce. The sauce was fantastic. The meatballs were huge, about the size of a baseball. Not a fan of huge meatballs. I prefer mine seared and finished in the sauce. These meatballs were rather bland, heavy on the breadcrumbs, and used only two meats (no veal). Too full for dessert, but will leave room next time. I will definitely return.

Great food. Great service. Charming owner. All pasta made fresh daily and tastes like heaven. The fettucine Alfredo is to die for. Chicken Parmesan is awesome. I don't know that you can order anything bad from here. Just make reservations because this is the smallest restaurant I have ever been to.

My wife and I decided to drive to our new neighborhood in Des Plaines. In our new neighborhood there are only a couple of restaurants and Giacomo's is one of them. We were hungry and it was late and it was snowing terribly so we stopped in. We started out with good butter (olive oil) and bread. Ordered the calamari with shrimp appetizer and it was awesome and huge. By the time we got our main dish, we were full. My wife ordered spaghetti with the picky-packy sauce and I got ravioli with the picky-packy sauce. Both were very good and better the next day since we could not finish them. All in all I would say Giacomo's is one of the best if not the best Italian I have eaten. This will be our neighborhood spot. Staff were very friendly and even the other patrons were nice. Very homey atmosphere and clean. Nice people are a welcome change since moving from the North Shore. We moved to Des Plaines to be around normal, working class, nice, down-to-earth people and I think we found it.

This is far none the BEST Italian restaurant I have ever been to. The food is always fresh and delicious and everyone makes you feel very welcome. Our favorite dishes are the Lasagna and chicken DiAnna. We also love their bread with Olive oil and cheese mix. Definetly a must for Italian cusine.

I've have passed this place for 11 years...and 11 years wasted on other Italian eateries. Unbelievable. *smacks head* This is currently our favorite Italian restaurant in the burbs. I dare say, perhaps close to just perfect. It's as close to Sunday night dinner with an Italian famliy as you can get., (just without grandma telling you to eat more, eat more). Since I am not Italian, I hope this place will adopt me for some meals. The place is just in the middle of nowhere on a fairly large street, an unassuming brick place with a brick interior. We came here on a Wed. night and still had to wait ten min or so. That was a good sign. We got seated after being THANKED for waiting, a common courtesy that somehow I have not heard for a long time from a eating establishment. Our wonderful server came to tell us about some specials, patiently explained every dish we asked about, and even asked the kitchen to make something off the lunch menu so my dad could have the fish he wanted. They even switched out my mom's soup because she couldn't handle the salt...after she tried it. And they did it kindly, graciously, and with no hesitation. Their hospitality spoke volumes to me and my family, and that level of service is so rare that just that alone would have gotten them four stars. So come for that, and stay for the darned good food. The bread they serve on the table is really good and they have a ready made parmesan/parsley/herb sprinkle to dabble into your olive oil. We had the calamari appetizer, lasagna, braciole, orange roughy, salmon, and pennette mediterraneo. I don't even have to explain them in detail...because they were all good. Indecisive about what to get? Get the lasagna because it is sooo good. It is heavy, but it is sooo good. There is polenta in there, so if you aren't fan of that...be forwarned. The calamari is a good starter, the breading isn't too heavy and the marinara goes really well with it. As a side note, the garlic dressing here is actually garlicky...hooray! The portions here are insane for the price, so come here with a ready belly or get ready to pack it up. They have a banquet room and they also cater. After being mistreated on a constant basis at large Italian places in malls (you know who you are), this is a breath of fresh air. This is truly a gem of a place and we are coming back. Soon. Please.

On a nondescript street, in a nondescript suburb of Chicago, you'll find a gem of an Italian restaurant. The food is revelatory. The pasta is good not spectacular. The true genius lies in the specialties. The braciole is so full of old fashioned, home cooked flavor, that I assume that the recipe must be anciently old. Older than the restaurant itself, the street the restaurant is on, and the town the street is in. The fact that it's a family owned and operated establishment is very evident in the food, service and atmosphere. I don't know why anyone would go to Maggianos, Olive Garden and the like, when a place like Giacomo's exists.

I love family owned places and this is one of my favorites back home. While I was in high school and working on the newspaper, one of my friends reviewed this place and so we decided to go here for a girl's night a few years later. It was great! All of the dishes were good and the portions are big. I love their tiramisu! In fact, whenever my boyfriend and I are both back in Illinois, he'll make sure to pick me up some tiramisu from here. Their customer service is great and the atmosphere is cozy. It's a great place for a date or even for a family dinner.

Giacomo's is one of our regular restaurants. The food is outstanding. The atmosphere is friendly. From start to finish, the food is just great. The staff is always friendly and attentive. We like to try different things on the menu and so far, we have not been disappointed. Their marinara sauce is excellent and you can not go wrong with the seafood. I usually hesitate to order seafood at restaurants being very picky but I can always relax at Giacomo's. I love to substitute the side of pasta for fresh vegetables because they are simple yet wonderful! We have taken several people here and they have all been happy!

Wow! I love fresh fish almost more than a good juicy cut of prime rib, but Giaomo's Red Snapper blew me away! It's baked with lemon, garlic and white wine sauce. Pretty simple. But simple prep should be expected when you have a kickass quality filet of fish, right? Accompanied by steamed veggies, choice of soup or salad AND a side of pasta with sauce for $15.95, how can you go wrong? Especially when the quality of that tender flakey melt-in-your-mouth red snapper is outstanding.....ahhh...drooool.... My co-worker had the orange roughy and was equally impressed and she said that the Tiramisu for dessert was probably the best she's ever had. Say it in Borat-speak: "Niiiice!" Atmosphere: laid-back Service: excellent. Water glasses filled frequently I was so freakin' stuffed from the minestrone soup and entree that I took the pasta with marinara sauce to go for lunch tomorrow. Will I go back? Yes, if the opportunity presents. I don't live up this way, so it would have to be for another work lunch. Damn, nothing funny happened. Hmmm...except that Napoleon Dynamite somehow came up.

We had Giacomo's catering for our Easter dinner. We had the Chicken limone, the sausage , and the stuffed shells. I have to say how everyone commented on how delicious the food was, especially the sausage and peppers. Even the bread was delicious, very fresh. Thanks to Giacomo, our Easter celebration was a great success!

The reason I gave 4 stars is because of the space. They have squeezed every last inch of that place possible to the point where it was claustrophobic. Also, we were there for a birthday and made reservations in advance, but it still took another 20 minutes past reservation time to be seated. That should tell you that the place gets busy because of the delicious food. Other than that, the food was authentic as italian gets. I got the gnocchi which was silghtly bland for my taste but with some crushed red pepper and a hint of salt, a very savory dish. Around the table, we were fairly pleased with the meal and the waiter did a great job. Overall, I would go eat here again.

I am from out of town and visiting family in the Northwest suburbs. Have been using Yelp to find nearby food places. The reviews for Giocomo's were helpful in picking this place. The service was great and the food was delicious. It is a realitively small dinning room, but with nice atmosphere and attentive staff. We had the calamari appitizer and the execellent bread that all get. They offered a taste of the wine we were thinking of ordering, which I thought was a nice service. I had the veal parma and my sister had the veal gorganzola. My brother in law had the chicken vesuvio. Everything was awesome and huge proportions. We had four containers of left overs to take home. If you are looking for a lot of choices and great Italian food, you can't go wrong at this place. The owner took our orders and came back multiple times to make sure everything was ok. Go there!

Based on solid recommendations, we decided to have dinner at this restaurant and I must say, it was great. A quaint family owned restaurant, the service is great, and the atmosphere is lively. The calamari we had for our appetizer was definitely one of my favorites. I ordered a veal main dish, which I rarely order anywhere, and it made me a veal lover. It definitely made me want to go back to have it again.

This place is incredible. I've been eating here for years and still can't get enough. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful with any questions you have on the menu. One of the best Italian restaurants in the area. Reservations are recommended as this place gets quite busy during meal times. I would recommend this place to anyone!

Gave this place a try after seeing so many great reviews on yelp. Knowing my review will, at this point, stand alone as "it was ok," I have to admit that I didn't find Giacomo's to deliver on the high expectations I had of it coming in. What I liked: service, a comprehensive southern Italian menu, portions large enough for a second meal the next day, accessible parking. What I didn't like: decor (current ambiance is something reminiscent of a 1974 mob hangout). What I'm still "in the air on:" the food. While the fried calamari and minestrone soup were both hearty and delicious, I wasn't left with a lasting impression of my Cappellini Positano. My husband had the Bracciole and said he had "had better." While flavors were okay, nothing left a lasting impression. I suppose my point is that this is a place that will easily escape one's memory. And that, in my mind, is reason enough for the 3-start rating.

I love, love, love this little gem! I have told so many of my friends and family to go give this restaurant a try because it is a little piece of heaven!! We brought our friends to Giacomo's and they instantly fell in love with the Italian cuisine, and had their pre-wedding party there! I love there party room... it is so spacious, warm, and romantic! I absolutely love coming in and always being greeted by Anne Marie, no matter how busy or not it is. Anna Marie is the sweetest in the world, and it doesn't stop there. I LOVE the wait staff, also... it doesn't matter who we get (even though we do have a favorite), everyone is so kind, warm, and inviting. I was so excited when Giacomo's was featured on "Check, Please", and I was so happy that it was! I will be going to this restaurant for as long as I can... it is something that you can't find very often...Thank you for a wonderful restaurant!

I had a party for 60 people at Giacomo's in May 2011. I was so impressed with the food, service, and ambiance. My guests LOVED the food, wine, and bar selections. Chef Giacomo and his wife, Anna Maria, were so gracious and helpful. It was a totally fun and relaxing night for me because everything went smoothly with effortless service. I received so many compliments from my guests and especially from my mother who is 87 years young! I HIGHLY recommend Giacomo's for a regular lunch or dinner in the restaurant OR for a party in their banquet room!

Ate here last week on the strength of everyone else's reviews, and was not the least bit disappointed. The food was very solid. Had the veal Florentine and a cannoli, and enjoyed both a great deal. Service was probably the friendliest I've experienced at a Chicagoland restaurant, with everyone from hostess to server to chef invested in making sure I was pleased with my meal (none of this was overbearing, by the way). I'm definitely going back.

My wife and I love this place. The food is always delicious. The eggplant parmesan, veal marsala, veal scallopini, and steak pizziola are our favorites. We also enjoy the turtle cookie dough ice cream pie for dessert. The service is pretty good, the food always served hot and tasty. They are consistently good every time.

We had really high expectations because of the other yelp reviews, and we saw it on Check, Please! However our experience was just average. We give it 3 stars because the portion sizes were generous. Based on quality, I would say 2 stars. We had the calamari and shrimp appetizer. It was a huge portion, which is a big plus. But it was really under-seasoned- borderline bland. We ordered chicken parmesan, cod with capers over linguini, and two of us had the zuppa di pesce (seafood soup with linguini). The entrees come with soup or salad. The soup was more of a stoup of chicken and rice- a tad too salty but fairly solid. Honestly, it was probably the best part of the meal. Chicken parmesan- this is a classic Italian dish, right? It should be spot on at any Italian restaurant. While it wasn't bad here, it just wasn't great. It was too thick (looked like it wasn't pounded) and the middle was completely dry. Cod with linguini- this dish was alright. Served with a tomato, caper, onion and garlic sauce. It wasn't bad, just okay. Zuppa di pesce- I'll give this to them- they give you plenty of seafood, but the broth was weak, not spicy enough and there wasn't a balance with the pasta. There were several pieces of seafood that were overcooked as well. Previous reviews mentioned what a good deal they thought the food was. I didn't think the food was that good of a deal. Yes, the portions are huge, but the quality isn't there and there are lots of other places that serve better food for less (and with big portions). All of these positive reviews really set you up for disappointment. We spent $200 and walked away with leftovers, but none of us were really satisfied. A better bet would be going to one of the Mia Francesca's, Rose Angelis or dare I say Maggiano's (and I don't really even care for Maggiano's). Giacomo's is too far away for too average food.

It is now on our list of favorite places to eat at...it is a little homey, but is perfect if you are planning to spend some family time...

Without a doubt, the best Italian restaurant in the burbs. Very welcoming staff, the hostess is such a sweet lady and always greets us with a huge smile. We have never had a dish we didn't love here. Try the cannolis, they are made fresh there, and have the perfect crunch and flavor.

This restaurant has a very cozy family-friendly setting. They were recently featured on Check, Please! so make sure to get a reservation, because it's not that big of a place and it was very busy! The bread and dipping oil before dinner are great. My family ordered the stuffed artichoke. It was tasty, but I wished we would have ordered the calamari, because it looked fantastic on others' plates around us. The dinners come with a choice of soup and salad. I had the lobster ravioli with shrimp it was very good. The portions were large enough that several people in my group took home leftovers. The service was pretty good. When service got slow, the owner's wife came around to help with refills and requests. The one little thing that bugged me was that there were a lot of little charges for extras or substitutions (1.50 to substitute for veggies, 3.00 to split a plate, etc.) Just after we had paid our $120 bill, my mom asked for a refill on her diet coke. She was told she could have one, but she had to pay $1.75 for another one. Meanwhile, we had our $2.00 iced teas refilled without charge. It might sound silly, but it's one of those things that shouldn't stand out in a dining experience.

If you live in the near northwest suburbs there is absolutely no reason to drive all the way down to Taylor street for real Italian food. Yes, Giacomo's is that good. While it may not be the hippest place around, the exceptional food and warmth of the staff far outweigh any loss of style points. I was also blown away by our servers knowledge of the wine list as well as the food itself. My wife and I both thought our dishes were sensational, and I thought the Veal Scallopine over Risotto was among the best I've had. Molto Bene Giacomo!

I am so glad I gave this restaurant a try. I had the lasagna and it was great. I also had a side of meatballs and they were very good. The portions were very big. I now have a whole meal left over. Soup came with the dinner and it was excellent! I think it was called Pizano. The soup had Italian sausage, rice, potatoes, etc. It was so good! I hope that was the name of the soup, if not someone please correct me. The people were so friendly. Linda was very helpful and explained the days specials including the different soups. She describe the above named soup, so I gave it a try and I'm glad I did. I will be returning here in the future!

We come here all the time and never leave disappointed. In fact, we ate there tonight, so I thought I'd finally write a review. Always friendly staff and great food! There is nothing fussy about this restaurant - their goal is to serve you great food in a relaxing, pleasant atmosphere. They have great specials that change often so there is always something new to try. The owners are awesome - so nice and personable. A must-try!

I've been here several times and the previous reviewer is correct, the owners are incredible. You walk in and they treat you like they've known you forever. Anna has often brought my son to peek into the kitchen to see Giacomo cook. The food in great. I've had so many things off of the menu and have loved everything. I'm not a fan of the decor but I've never been one to get hung up on that. If the food is good and the service is good then I don't care.

This place is pretty great. It's so cozy and so authentic that you feel like you're in your Italian friend's grandparent's dining room. The prices are really reasonable for the MASSIVE amount of food that you get. Did I mention it's freaking delicious too?

Impressive Italian feast. The lasagna was outstanding -- amongst the best we have ever had. The start soup was tasty, too. We were stuffed on the way out -- bring a good appetite.

Giacomo's is more an American take on Italian food, but oh so delicious. From salad to soup to saucy entrees, they get it right. If you're looking for light, low calorie fare, you're probably in the wrong place. Service is fantastic and the restaurant is well managed. While non-pasta entrees are a little pricey, you'll have plenty of leftovers.

We booked Giacomo's for our wedding reception. We had a 60 person wedding in the morning at a church in Des Plaines, followed by a luncheon at Giacomo's. From beginning to end, the whole staff was a pleasure to work with. We spoke mostly with Anna Maria about our plans for the luncheon, and she is so wonderful! She helped us plan the menu and reception and was so sweet and seemed genuinely interested and excited to help us plan things. For the meal, we decided on bruschetta appetizers, cream of chicken rice soup, gnocchi with vodka sauce, chicken vesuvio, sausage & peppers, and mixed vegetables. For dessert they served ice cream with our wedding cake (cake was from a bakery). The food was absolutely delicious!! We got so many compliments on how good the food was. The service was awesome, not only on the day of the wedding but throughout the planning process and while setting up the day before the wedding. Every time we went in there or called, Anna Marie and the staff were so nice and happy to help us out and answer our questions. We brought in a microphone and speaker for music and speeches and also a projector and screen to do a slideshow. Everything was beautiful and it was such an awesome day for us. We couldn't have picked a better place for our celebration. I would highly recommend Giacomo's.

I believe Tracy could eat pasta and a red sauce 7 days a week! So after getting a few thumbs up, we decided to take a shot and swing by last week. We were immediately seated and had a very friendly server help us out. Food service was fast, and we both had good meals, me a cavetelli (sp?) and bolognese sauce with meatballs and Tracy her standard red sauce.... but can't remember her noodle choice. They do make all their own noodles. We both enjoyed our dishes and the staff, we'll definitely be back.

Walk into this restaurant and you feel like you're being invited into someone's home. Don't be surprised if owner/chef Giacomo and his wife Anna give you personal attention during your visit. It's a small, cozy, warm Italian experience in the suburbs. It's not only a perfect place to go for a romantic date, but the small banquet room makes it a perfect place to have a private party. We're big fans of authentic Italian food (not "Olive Garden" Italian). The dishes we tried on our first trip to Giacomo's really impressed us. We were thrilled that the flavors in Giacomo's dishes were on par with the dishes we have sampled in Italy. The menu has something for everyone: vegetarians will enjoy the roasted veggie dishes and meatless pastas; seafood lovers will fall in love with the fresh fish dishes, mussels, calamari and shrimp dishes; meat lovers have mouthwatering steaks, veal and chicken dishes to choose from. We especially love Giacomo's calamari appetizer - probably one of the best and most ample plates of calamari around. The vodka sauce at Giacomo's is fabulous! And it's nice to go to a restaurant where the fresh hot bread is served with a bowl of freshly grated Parmesan and a cruet of extra virgin olive oil rather than just with butter. The tiramisu is great paired with an espresso after dinner. The service each time we have been there has been great. The wait staff seem to take real pride in their work and the food that they are presenting.

I was here with work people and I have to say this restaurant has a solid, rich Italian food, Huge pasta portions, good bread, and traditional Italian food.. But the place is missing some class. The service is very quick, room looked empty and cold.. I was not impressed with restaurant decor and service...

it was ok. very busy so service suffered a little bit. valet guy was terrified of my stick shift car but he handled it fine. I ordered something new and wasn't thrilled with it, but I don't think I would have liked it anywhere else either, so I can't fault Giacomo's for that. I have seen them post on their signboard that they offer gluten-free pasta.

My friend and I have been here 4 times. Every time the food is absolutely fantastic! It is out of this world! The lasagna has polenta in it! It is the absolute BEST! The service is excellent, too. This is a family owned restaurant and everyone is very friendly and cares very much about the satisfaction of their guests. Much better than the Olive Garden and the Spaghetti Warehouse. Hurry! Go tonight! You won't be disappointed!

4 of us went there for dinner on a Sat. night. 2 people liked their meals and 2 didn't. Chicken Cacciatore--the chicken was about 100 years old so tough and stringy, sauce was disgusting--not a fresh dish-remove it. Cavatelli was slimy and sauce was extremely salty. Cannelloni and veal dish were the 2 that were OK. We all ordered side cesar salads--where's the salad? It was mostly croutons, it seemed as if the dressing was not home made, or watered down and very sour. We all ordered the potatoe bacon soup--forget it--tasted like pure salt--no rustic flavor expected from that combination. None of us could eat the side of spagetti--the tomatoe sauce was disgusting and pure salt--how can someone screw up a side of spagetti? Overall none of us will go back. What a let down. It was good years ago but something has changed. My neighbor warned me before we went that it had changed and wasn't as good as it used to be--he was right.

This is a nice, small family restaurant but after 4 visits it is clear to me the place is not deserving of so many rave reviews. I have never had a "great" meal here; merely good to fair. Sauces are under-seasoned. Chicken is overcooked. The Italian sausage and meatballs are bland. There are much better Italian choices within 3 miles of Giacomo's.

Surprise, oh Sweet Surprise My wife and I went here on a hunch. We had tickets to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra at the All-State Arena on a Saturday. We didn't want to get stuck in the "chain restaurants" that surround All-State Arena, and we struck gold with this quaint and gem of a restaurant. Linda, the co-owner and hostess, was friendly and inviting. We were seated promptly even without reservations! Our waitress was very helpful and told us the specials and was very quick with our drink orders. The staff was exceptional in filling water glasses, taking plates, and being very customer service oriented and attentive. The food was exquisite! Right off the bat, you can taste the difference in most restaurants that all their food is made in-house, from the pasta to the sauces. Superb! The portions are pretty huge, so unless you haven't eaten in a couple days, you will be taking some home with you. Expect to have leftovers for lunch the next day. My wife ordered Eggplant alla Parmigiana and she loved it. I sneaked a taste and it was very good. The sauce was right on the money...the eggplant did not have any sogginess to it and still held its consistency, and the taste was awesome. I ordered the special which was sort of like Steak Pizzaiola, put with some Risotto and mmhmm....it tasted just as good as it smelled. Those filet medallions were so succulent and tender, it made me salivate. The sauce was excellent. and the risotto was creamy yet not mushy. Very very good. I would and will come here again for my next real Italian food craving. Whenever you are in this neck of the woods, try this place out. You have to; it is a must!

It was my parents' birthday and my sister, brother in law, and I wanted to treat them to something other than Chinese food. All I can say is thank God we didn't end up going to Olive Garden, which was originally planned. Saw some good reviews on Yelp and thought we'd check Giacomo's out. This place is amazing. Not only was the food great and in very large portions (each entree ended up being three different meals), the wait staff was very helpful. This family owned restaurant is one of a kind. Definitely not many of them left. I highly recommend this place. P.S.- Also, if you're into The Sopranos. This restaurant will make you feel as if you were Tony eating at Arthur's restaurant. :P

We went here recently on a weekend evening. The dining area consists of a smallish room with tightly packed tables and another room that might also double as a party or banquet room. We had reservations and were seated promptly in the smaller of the two dining rooms after checking in with the hostess. The service was very friendly. The menu consists of traditional Italian fare with several pasta choices including a build-your-own pasta concept in which you choose the pasta and the sauce you want on it. We enjoyed the fried calamari (big portions) as an appetizer and the pasta with bolognese sauce was very good. The wine list is a one-pager with most bottles priced under $30.

I visited the place during a lunch outing for work. There were 15 of us so we had a variety of dishes, most of what was on the menu (its a smaller menu), wich is not a bad thing if done right. Unfortunately nothing was done right, as far as food. The place is nice the service is decent aswell I will give them that . Nobody really enjoyed the food my boss returned the chicken marsala, my friend ordered the most expensive thing wich was the veal in a gorgonzola sauce. he said there was very little veal and the sauce was too rich and too much. Same type of feelings were shared by some other folks. The appetizer platter had the worst calamari ive had wich is hard to mess up the stuffed mushrooms were just dry and rubbery, olive gardens are even much better. I had the salmon, cooked perfectly on the grill a bit bland but acceptable. the presentation on the other hand was herendous, on a bed of what appeared to be a whole can of spinach. The best thing was the spumoni. Dont go there its a waste of money go to a place like Renaldis in chicago or basically anywere else, its some of the worst food ive seen in a restaurant of that caliber.

My 50th Birthday! My Wife and I ate here a couple weeks back and had such a great overall experience we could not wait to go back with my Papa for my 50th BD.Last time we also wrote a 5-star review. This time was the extreme opposite, sadlyTerrible server who has a bad attitude with snippy and rushed service. He actually dumps my spumoni with a candle in it, lights it and runs away but before that each entre looked like slop on a plate, much much water and luke warm spagh.DRAIN DRAIN DRAIN your noodles and other pasta,Basic stuff.I really want my money back and oh "check Please" camera arrived but no excuse for a rotten experience!!!

What can I say about this place besides great service and food. I've been here a few times and love Grigliata di Pesce or Steak Pizzaiola. The wine selection is not as extensive but works with its menu. I wish they had an option for BYOB so you can bring some more complex wines that will be great pairing with his dishes. Hell I would pay a crock fee for that.

Giacomo's is THE best! Better than my moms or grandmas cooking. Every time I come here I try something different & I cant decide what my favorite is. The bruschetta is the most flavorful I've ever had. The stuffed artichoke is well worth the 20 minutes it takes...can't rush perfection! Fried calamari & grilled octopus are always a staple. Every soup I've had during dinner I order a container to go after my meal because its just delicious. My personal favorite sauces are Picky-packy, Vodka, Pesto & Carbonara. The Zuppa di Pesce is not to be missed. Here's a little secret, the filet mignon here is one of the best around. You wouldn't expect that at such an exceptional Italian restaurant. The fish in all of the pasta dishes & dinner entrees is cooked to perfection and always very fresh. The veal is as tender as it gets. I never was a big fan of chicken until I had it here. They have daily specials you wont find on the menu. Because I've had everything on the menu, I usually go with one of the specials. The wait staff is so friendly & courteous. When you walk in the door, you truly feel like family. Be sure to make a reservation, especially on the weekends. You will never leave hungry. The portions are huge. I travel over 50 miles to go here & probably pass 100 restaurants. I will continue to pass all of them because everything from the atmosphere, to the service, to the most delicious meals I've ever had will keep me coming back!

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

(1)CK A.

Excellent food and wine selections. Good service. Wonderful place to dine and have a conversation.

(5)Jay K.

ENJOY!
(5)Amy C.
(2)Eduardo E.

We love this place...my grandparents (who live minutes from hear and I swear before they bought it, it was a hot dog place called the spicy pickle or something like that) befriended Giacomo and his gracious wife years ago and we still enjoy going whenever we can...great home cooked Italian food at reasonable prices...had the shrimp and scallops w/portabellas and risotto (I asked for added grilled octopus which makes it that much better to me anyways)...my fiancé had the chicken piccata over penne pasta...awesome as well...classy great service and it really does bring back memories of family dinners my grandparents loved making for us....had enough leftovers to make two more meals...love it...if you're looking for authentic Italian with that classy, no frills feeling of home cooking, you can't go wrong!!
(5)Dan Z.
Fooled by the numerous four and five star reviews, a group of work associates entered this restaurant with high expectations. Unfortunately, these were not met. It wasn't terrible, and it was by no means great - standard red sauce, meat not very tender, boring specials, family owned, nice but not worth what they charge for entrées. Too many other choices in Chicago for Italian food. The one highlight was the lentil soup, it was amazing!
(3)Diana J.

First time we were there. Everyone's food was great. Great Service! Going back for sure!

(5)Arletta C.
(4)Dk A.
(5)Lauren K.
(5)Mike H.
(4)Mister M.
I do not know why the chef salted the lemon chicken but please let diners salt their own food if necessary. I might go back but will try something else or will ask for no salt.
(3)Jackie S.
(5)M K.
This really is just OK Italian food. The ambiance is great and the service is excellent, but there is no reason to go out of your way to eat here if you have a passable place near you.
(3)Bob P.
Excellent lunch stop. you can smell the garlic as you're walking in. good service and great Italian food. i had the salad and the waitress suggested the menu listed dressing. not my usual, but, what the hell. it was very good....Glad I stepped outside my typical box!!
(5)Cory H.
Best Italian in the Chicagoland area. All of the entrees are fresh and huge. Must try this place out if you haven't yet!
(5)Terese C.
(5)Cindy P.
(5)Nasty B.
(1)Michael G.

(4)Michael C.

(2)Amy T.
(3)Michelle S.
Homemade Gnocchi is a must order. Chicken cacciatore was very delicious. Our waitress was very busy that another waitress helped her out. Both were very nice. A pleasant dinner overall.
(4)Michael K.
(5)Brian A.
(4)Jeannine K.
Cute small place! They don't really have a specific gluten free menu, but the regular menu does have gluten-free gnocchi. They are also very knowledgeable about gluten and can help you order off the menu and remain gluten free. The shrimp, scallop, portobello risotto was delicious!
(4)Harriet M.

(3)Les O.
(3)Linda N.
(4)Yordan I.
2 times there and both times it was a very pleasant dinner. The food is great, good wine and the service is fast. A little restaurant but they know how to run the business.
(5)R P.

I went yesterday the Italian sausage the red sauce sucked i this food

(3)Solitaire L.
(4)Chris P.
Great food with family friendly service. We look forward to returning.
(5)Kat Q.
(3)Lorrie L.
Don't be fooled by the outside and pass this place up. Our service, food, and wine were all amazing! The red sauce is wonderful!!! Chicken Parma was a thick piece of chicken that was amazing. Great experience!
(5)Keith O.
(2)JoonieJoon K.
(4)Michael P.
The best Italian place in the burbs bar none and second place isn't even close! Try the picky pack sauce and order a bottle of wine and stay awhile! Trust me you'll feel like you're at home
(4)Rebecca H.
Quaint atmosphere. Great bread and dipping blend. Dinner was good, looking to try something else next time. I had cheese ravioli with picky pack sauce. Tasty!
(4)Jake H.
(3)Shelley M.
Great, homemade Italian food. We had lasagna and it was amazing! Loved the fresh bread with olive oil and cheese to start also. We will definitely be back.
(5)Holly C.
(5)John J.
(3)Gregory B.

(4)Hank K.
(5)Grace L.
Soon. Please.
(5)Jin K.
(4)Jisha J.
(4)Tava B.
Pretty good food, didn't really wow me. decent setting, good service. But the prices are high. Portions were BIG......at least my husband was able to have dinner out of my leftovers.
(3)Donna S.
(5)Ryan G.
Best Italian in a long time. We will return for sure
(5)John L.
(4)Cecile S.
(5)Hank A.
(4)David K.
Go there!
(4)Joy W.
Customer service is superb. Food was fabulous. I would highly recommend this restaurant for any size group.
(5)Jose B.
OMG!!! their lobster ravioli and shrimp vodka sauce was epic.... and their egg plant parmesan was delicious!!!(mind you i HATE eggplant... dont judge me!!) lol. But seriously, i will definitely be a return customer!!
(5)Mike T.
(5)Tom H.
This place is incredible. I've been eating here for years and still can't get enough. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful with any questions you have on the menu. One of the best Italian restaurants in the area. Reservations are recommended as this place gets quite busy during meal times. I would recommend this place to anyone!
(5)Heather G.

(5)Sharon D.
(5)Anthony N.
(4)Scott S.
(5)Milo P.
(3)Rafal B.
My wife and I went there for our anniversary dinner. Food was great, waiter very helpful and price was reasonable. We already planing to go there again.
(4)Aditi H.
Great ambiance, service, and the food is yummmyyy!!! I am a vegetarian, and my hubby is not...so we got to taste both fares....The creamy pesto is to die for!! and the salmon was great! so says my hubby.....we went here for lunch.. It is now on our list of favorite places to eat at...it is a little homey, but is perfect if you are planning to spend some family time...
(4)Krystal W.
Without a doubt, the best Italian restaurant in the burbs. Very welcoming staff, the hostess is such a sweet lady and always greets us with a huge smile. We have never had a dish we didn't love here. Try the cannolis, they are made fresh there, and have the perfect crunch and flavor.
(5)Kimberly H.
(4)Michael A.
(5)J B.
Me and my family have been going to Giacomo's for 13 years and have never been disapointed. We have tried probably everything on the menu which has a great varity and the specials are always exciting.
(5)Tom Z.
(5)Peggy D.
So good!! Whenever we want 2 go out to a nice dinner we come here!! The owners are so kind!
(5)Joan I.
A must-try!
(5)Tes S.
Went here with my grandmother who swears by this place. The service was wonderful and the food was spectacular.
(4)Jenn M.
(5)nicole h.
This place is pretty great. It's so cozy and so authentic that you feel like you're in your Italian friend's grandparent's dining room. The prices are really reasonable for the MASSIVE amount of food that you get. Did I mention it's freaking delicious too?
(4)Jimmo X.
Impressive Italian feast. The lasagna was outstanding -- amongst the best we have ever had. The start soup was tasty, too. We were stuffed on the way out -- bring a good appetite.
(5)Kim W.
(4)Diablo L.
Great place , started with fried calamari, baked clams, wonderful, ordered the capellini positano (angel hair pasta w/scallops , baby clams and shrimp), delicious , ended with one of the best lemon ice i've ever tasted , highly recommended....
(4)Kelly J.
(5)Shaun S.

(5)Happy M.
I was here with work people and I have to say this restaurant has a solid, rich Italian food, Huge pasta portions, good bread, and traditional Italian food.. But the place is missing some class. The service is very quick, room looked empty and cold.. I was not impressed with restaurant decor and service...
(3)Jeff N.
it was ok. very busy so service suffered a little bit. valet guy was terrified of my stick shift car but he handled it fine. I ordered something new and wasn't thrilled with it, but I don't think I would have liked it anywhere else either, so I can't fault Giacomo's for that. I have seen them post on their signboard that they offer gluten-free pasta.
(3)Dawn M.
(5)Jen T.
My bridal shower was held at Giacomo's and we were given the back banquet room, which is just gorgeous! I absolutely loved the food. It was delicious.
(4)Jan B.
(1)Steve P.
(3)Walt M.
(5)Abraham P.
The food was above average and the service was terrible. Took the waiters forever to get our orders and and get our checks. Never going back there again.

(4)Al R.

Pleasant surprise! Friendly wait staff. Nice atmosphere. Great food. I had the minestone soup, angel hair pasta with spinach and shrimp, and the chocolate lava cake. I'll definitely be back.

We've always had a good experience here. The food is great, the owners are fantastic, and the atmosphere is really nice.
